Riding Into the Sunset

Sometimes when you can’t physically leave your town you have to find another way to get out. Luckily I have a bike, and New Jersey does have some beautiful sunsets when you find an open area. It so happens that southern New Jersey is pretty flat so you normally don’t have to go too far. I live near an airport, so I took my bike out for a nice 15-mile ride around the open areas for views of this gorgeous sky on a beautiful spring night.

The ride was a nice escape along with the photo op. I look forward to documenting the things I love about the northeast before I abscond for an indefinite period of time. The hardest part about biking around here is finding a place without traffic. It takes some of the fun out of riding when I’m always hoping that driver behind me can see me or isn’t texting and drifting off on to the shoulder of the road. Be careful out there, kids.

P.S. The watermark on the photos is mine, of course. You can see my photography work at if you are so inclined.

  2. Beautiful images. I love the one with the bike wheel.
I live in the northern part of Central Jersey or the most southern tip of North Jersey – you get the picture. I have been looking for the perfect place to view a sunset and take pictures near my home but so far I haven’t found it. Telephone wires/poles, electrical towers, buildings, houses, and loads of trees keep me from finding a spot so far. I have found several open spots but they face North or South.
I haven’t been down your way in a while. Not sure how close this is to you but we used to camp at Bass River SP every year.
It’s nice to find a positive post about New Jersey. Search in Reader and most NJ posts are about crime, Christie, and real estate.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures!

    • Thank you! I’m right in the middle of south Jersey between Philly and AC. There’s a lot of farm land around here so I can find open areas pretty easily. My advice would be to look for a small airport or lake if you can. You can usually finagle a good shot somewhere around those places.
